It is more than 10 years since China has accessed as a member of World Trade Organization (WTO). During this period, China has made great achievements in economy and foreign trade. What impacts does WTO have on this process and how it affects the development of China? The study on this issue is plentiful and has involved different areas, which however have few works in the field of International Relations. This paper would like to focus on the function WTO has placed on China’s foreign trade and economy using the theory of Neo Liberal Institutionalism.Neo Liberal Institutionalism theory tells us what is regime and what functions does it have. Shortly, international regime can provide high-qualified information, which is essential to corporation among nations; reduce the cost of negotiation which is much higher in anarchy; increase the cost of betray which is common in anarchy system and restrict the change of national preference.This paper refers to some important rules, principles and institutions of WTO, including the principle of most favored nation treatment, the principle of transparency, rule of accession, the trade policy review mechanism and the trade dispute settlement institution, and then, the impact of these rules, principles and institutions to WTO’s members.As an international regime in global trade, WTO has helped China in providng stage and information for trade communication, reducing the cost of negotiation, maintain a stable environment for foreign trade and economy development and most importantly, learning and studying the law, regulation and other thing which is essential to China’s reform of socialist market economy.
