The 12 th five-year plan was put forward to build Shanghai into a world-famous tourist city. Shanghai building a world-famous tourist city has been got the strong support from the Shanghai municipal government. At present, Shanghai has entered into the stage of the overall construction of the world-famous tourist city. This paper studies the world famous-tourist city from the angle of public cognition, it will make for clearlying tourism function, optimizing tourism project layout and promoting the tourism product development.In this paper, the construction of Shanghai building a world-famous tourist city is the breakthrough point. Through referring to the domestic and foreign literature review about the cognitive evaluation index system of the world famous tourism city and tourist destination residents’ cognition, the citizens’ cognitive evaluation index system of Shanghai building a world-famous city is established combining with the actual situation of Shanghai. Then use the method of empirical analysis and obtain the data through investigation, factor analysis, mean analysis, correlation analysis and other methods for data processing. It is concluded that the specific cognitive about how citizens look the construction of the world famous tourism city, and suggestions to construct the world famous tourism city is put forward. Through the empirical analysis, the paper draws the following conclusions: first, the present stage citizens hold a positive and supportive attitude on the Shanghai building a world-famous tourist city on the whole, strong positive effects on cognition in negative influence on the cognitive. Second, the public’s demographic and sociological characteristics is an important factor leading to the public cognition difference, the characteristics of different effects variables, including age and residence time is the characteristic variables of the most influential, followed by gender and income, cognition degree of culture oflittle effect on the public. Third, based on the difference of the public cognition, citizens of Shanghai are divided into 3 kinds, respectively is: rational supporters and contradictory cautious supporters and supporters.This paper studies Shanghai building a world-famous tourist city from the perspective of citizens’ cognitive. The existed research about the city is from the angle of city itself. The paper study it from the perspective of cognition. Cognitive involves psychology theory. The research perspective is relatively novel.
