The Study Of Proper Consumption Under The Theory Of Environmental Protection

In recent years, incidents of environmental pollution are constantly emerging and are growing in intensity. What is the root cause of environmental pollution today? In my view, the chief culprit of environmental pollution is the consumerism that prevails in the present society, resulting in over-consumption of enormous natural resources. To improve their living conditions, too much has been done for the transformation of natural environment, the exploitation of mineral resources, the destruction of forests, the broadening of agricultural acreage and living spaces, and as a consequence, disasters such as sand storm, acid rain, mud-rock flow occur occasionally every year. The older generation has left behind their backs certain indirect and invisible pollution problems, such as the greenhouse effect, the devastation of the ozone layer, extensive mist and so on.Material consumption is an eternal theme for human existence and development. What should we do to coordinate the relationship between social development and environmental pollution control? The only answer lies in proper consumption of natural resources. This paper dialectically criticizes consumerism from the standpoint of environmental pollution control. The concept of proper personal consumption and the policy of proper consumption advocated by the government were also discussed in the paper. In my opinion, the so-called proper consumption is historical, specific and relative. That is to say, consumption should agree with the levels of economic development and personal income. At the same time, it is restricted by productive forces, social customs and other social conditions. Different countries have their own different conditions. In developing a certain policy, policy-makers should consider comprehensively from the standpoints of the present state conditions, the level of productive forces, the overall interests of social development, and other factors. And the correct concept of consumption, which is compatible to social development, should be established.It is hoped that this research paper will enable us to have a more intimate knowledge about the correct consuming activities, and straighten up the relationship between consumption and environment protection, and guide people to establish a right concept of consumption and a correct view on values. Only through advocation of proper consumption concept, can we abandon once and for all the concept of excessive consumption, and free ourselves from the dilemma of environmental protection and human existence, which were caused by the present consumption habits. What should be done right now is to protect global environment with right and proper consumption.
