Research On The Establishment And Improvement Of Lenovo East China Distribution Center

Both in theory and practice, distribution center has become one of the hottest topics in the recent research of logistics management. After joining the WTO, China has further participated in the international division and become the "world factory" because the manufacturing industry was largely transferred from developed countries. With the fast growth of domestic manufacturer, distribution center has gradually played a decisive role.From 2000, the factories of Lenovo started to move to East China where many ODMs(original design manufacturer)are located in. Lenovo has one self-owned factory and three outsourced ODMs which totally accounted for 70% of the annual production volume. With the rise of factory number, expansion of sales market and increase of shipping volume, the logistics network became more and more complex and massive. Meanwhile, some critical problems came out.The thesis studied the whole establishment process of Lenovo distribution center which was used to solve the problem of low container filling rate.Firstly, it introduces the definition and function of DC and the application in PC industry.Secondly, it analyses the merits and demerits of Lenovo logistics network, emphasizes the existing problems and the root causes.Thirdly, it discusses the whole decision-making process, including programme planning, service scope definition, the reasons of outsourcing and its advantage, the consideration factor of location selection, the detailed operation and benefit of DC. During the discussion of location selection, it is not only based on the previous research summary, but also fully considers actual situation of Lenovo which makes it a valuable complement to the location selection research.Finally, it makes some suggestions for the future development from the aspects of function enrichment and manufacturing strategy adjustment of Lenovo.Through the writing of this thesis,it helps me to play an important role in my position and improves my professional skill so as to contribute more to Lenovo.
