A Study On The Impact Of OFDI Reverse Technology Spillover On China’s Export Competitiveness

Since the reform and opening up, China’s foreign trade scale has presented rapid growth on the whole. At present, China is the world’s first trading power. However, affected by the financial crisis, China’s export has presented negative growth for the first time in 2009, the situation of foreign trade is relatively serious, China must constantly improve the export competitiveness to change the development pattern of foreign trade, thus to improve the international status of our country. In addition to trade, OFDI is an important means for a country to participate in the international division. In recent years, especially after the financial crisis, China’s OFDI has developed rapidly, related research at home and abroad shows that OFDI has reverse technology spillover effect, and Technology Sourcing OFDI performs most prominently, namely that OFDI can promote the home country to obtain advanced technology. In addition, a large number of studies have shown that technological upgrading plays an important role in improving the export competitiveness of a country. In this context, this article analyzes the impact of OFDI reverse technology spillover on China’s export competitiveness, thus to make some substantive suggestions for better use of OFDI to enhance our export competitiveness.In this context, this article adopts the method of combining theoretical analysis and empirical analysis to study the impact of OFDI reverse technology spillover on China’s export competitiveness. Chapter 1 introduces the research background and significance, reviews the related research of scholars at home and abroad and defines the concept of OFDI reverse technology spillover and export competitiveness. Chapter 2 introduces the current situation of China’s OFDI and export competitiveness; Chapter 3 analyses the influence mechanism of OFDI reverse technology spillover on the export competitiveness tentatively, mainly from the aspects of export scale, export commodity structure and the mode of export trade. Chapter 4 empirically tests the effect of OFDI reverse technology spillover on China’s export competitiveness by constructing econometric models with the related data of China’s 30 provinces (except Tibet) from 2004 to 2012, foreign R&D capital stock overflowed by the channel of OFDI represents the OFDI reverse technology spillover, China’s export competitiveness is measured by the export scale, export commodity structure and the mode of export trade. The empirical results show that the OFDI reverse technology spillover can improve China’s export competitiveness in some extent, but the promoting effect is not very significant. In addition, the effect of OFDI reverse technology spillover on China’s export competitiveness is also affected by the level of human capital, and China’s current level of human capital will hinder the promoting effect to some extent. Chapter 5 summarizes this paper and puts forward corresponding countermeasures.
