With the development of society and economy, more and more residents havetraveling consumption ability. Meanwhile, with the fast pace of life, more and moreresidents are eager to return to the country to feel of the original flavor of nature. Inthis case, rural tourism is born at the right moment and develops in good condition.Ruian City, by the advantage of its unique nature, economic development andunique customs, vigorously carries out rural tourism and develops fairly well in ashort time. However, in the process of development, there are some factors restrictingthe sustainable development of rural tourism. Based on this, this thesis aims atanalyzing reasons for the success of Ruian rural tourism, thinking of specificproblems, and discussing countermeasures and providing some suggestions to get thesustainable development for Ruian City rural tourism.This thesis consists of three main parts: the first part includes chapter1andchapter2. It begins with a brief introduction to the overview of theoretical knowledgeof rural tourism. Chapter1discusses the background of this thesis, meaning andexisting relevant research results. Chapter2is about the definition of rural tourismand the theories of knowledge, introducing theories on the current popular“sustainable development”,“new rural construction”,“low carbon economy” and“experience economy” to lay the foundation for following discussion on thedevelopment of Ruian rural tourism. Chapter3is the second part about foreign ruraltourism researches abroad. Many foreign countries after World War II, carried outrural tourism, have accumulated rich experience in the development. For instance,South Korea and Japan developed the market in the context of governmentintervention in rural tourism; France emphasized the leading role of intermediaryorganizations in rural tourism and the United States put the largest degree ofdecentralization of authority to the primary sector in the development of rural tourism.The success of these countries shows that only with the combination of marketeconomy and government intervention on the basis on supply and demand can therural tourism get sustainable development. The third part includes chapter4and chapter5. It analyzes the problem of the development of rural tourism and providesfeasible suggestions for further development. Chapter4discusses the development ofrural tourism in Ruian City, as well as bottlenecks encountered in the developmentprocess. Ruian rural tourism development is determined by its own location, but dueto a late start, so there is a low degree of resource development, inadequateinfrastructure, and low level of managers’ service management. Chapter5points outthe strengths and weaknesses as well as the existing opportunities and threatsaccording to the above problems and the concept of sustainable development,combined with SWOT analysis to locate the future development of objectives andstrategies in Ruian rural tourism.
