| This paper regards the influence of geographical indication of agricultural product onthe regional economy as the research object. On the basis of the relevant theoreticalresearch, it analyzes the current situation of the development of geographical indication ofagricultural product in Shandong province from three aspects: the number of applications,the growth rate, and the structure of product types. Then it regards Weixian Radish GI asan example, analyzing its development and economic benefits reflecting in higher prices,industry formation, increasing farmers’ income, and adding agricultural output value andregional GDP.Based on the case study, it empirics the influence of the geographical indications ofagricultural products on the regional economy. Data takes the number of the geographicalindications of agricultural products and regional GDP, agricultural output value andfarmers’ income in Shandong17cities from2006to2012, setting up the panel data modelto empiric the influence of geographical indication of agricultural products on the regionaleconomy. It gets the following conclusions: each added geographical indication ofagricultural product can increase the GDP of5.093billion Yuan, increase the agriculturaloutput value of about290million Yuan, and can make the rural residents per capita incomeincrease169.2Yuan. It empirics that developing the geographical indications ofagricultural products can promote the development of regional agricultural economy, addfamer’s income, increase agricultural value, and promote the development of relatedindustries, then add the regional GDP.To further improve the development of GIs in Shandong Province, aiming at thequestions that unbalanced regional development and irrational product type structureexisting in the status quo of the development of geographical indications of agriculturalproducts in Shandong Province, and problems existing in the development of WeixianRadish, it makes the following suggestions: first, to increase the product types of GIapplication; second, to support and encourage the disadvantaged areas to apply thegeographical indications of agricultural products; third, to improve the efficiency of the useof GIs and encourage enterprises to apply for the use of geographical indications; fourth, tosternly crack down on the fake and shoddy products, improving rights awareness; fifth, toattach great importance and give full play to the functions of industry associations; sixth, to establish a unified quality standard system gradually, promoting agriculturalstandardization and automation vigorously. |
