Historical experience and reality show that a country’s economic prosperity is inseparable fromeconomic development and the growth of SMEs. As a developing country, some of the economic policiesmade by the national and local government encouraged SMEs to spring up these years, particularly inYangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and other places featured with a lot of money and human resources.With injecting fresh blood to the society, these enterprises have played an important role in economicprosperity, increasing employment, promoting innovation and spawned industries as the backbone of thesocial economy.However, currently, the development of SMEs is facing a problem of financing difficulties. Due to thedefects of SMEs in the aspects of finance, credit and management, the commercial banks would take moreeffort on developing large enterprise customers by increasing credit criteria. In this case, the financingmethods and capacity of SMEs will be strictly limited. Coupled with the impact of the recent financialcrisis, the recession of world economy and continued appreciation of the RMB and a series of chainreactions, the profit of SMEs are greatly squeezed.Based on SME finance theory, through comparative analysis of the SME financing of the UnitedStates, Japan and Canada, the paper discusses the financing difficulties in Wuhan city and the country, andexpect to summarize the measures and policy recommendations of optimizing the financing structure.Including the introduction, there are six parts of the paper, which are as followings: The first part isthe overview of SME financing structure optimization theory. The second part is the analysis of SMEfinancing structure optimization. This part focuses on the evaluation of the financing needs of SMEs. Thethird part is the international comparative analysis of financing structure of SMEs. The fourth part is theanalysis of SMEs in the fields of behavior, condition and efficiency in Wuhan. The last part is tosummarize the measures and policy recommendations of optimizing the financing structure through thecurrent reality in Wuhan.
