Bamboo shoot is a kind of natural green foods which is rich in fiber and amino acids etc. Bamboo shoot, which has the functions of stimulating digestion, reducing fat and cholesterol, etc., it is a good product that meet the requirement for the modern diet and favored by consumers. Through developing of bamboo shoot industry, which provided good food for people, beautified and afforested environment, reduced unemployment, increased farmers’ income and promoted local economic, we obtained good ecological, economic and social benefits. Youxi is one of the main producing areas of bamboo shoots. The planting area and production of bamboo shoots in Youxi are ranked national top. Youxi has the advantage of natural resources, labor resources and strong mass base in the development of bamboo shoots. The development of bamboo shoots industry in Youxi is optimistic.Through information retrieving and visits to government departments, enterprises and farmers, this paper investigated and studied the Youxi bamboo shoot industry and its development status. The current study in domestic and oversea has been analyzed. Characteristics and history of Youxi bamboo shoots have been described. The Youxi bamboo shoots industry has been discussed by SOWT methods. This paper analyzed the advantages of the industry, but also pointed out that the development of Youxi bamboo shoots industry exist some drawbacks, such as that less attention from the government, few resources, no technology-intensive, low utilization rate, small enterprise scale, low added value of products, weak brand creation and effects, weak marketing level, etc. Meanwhile, the industry face the challenge of fierce similar products competition, strict international trade barriers and severe global economic situation.Refer to the successful experience of the development of Youxi textile industry, The article concluded that Youxi bamboo shoot industry needs all participants, include government, business and social, to cooperate and take various measures to achieve further development. The government should optimize the allocation of resources, make a scientific development plan, enhance support, promote scientific and technological content, fostering leading enterprises, strengthen the brand establishment, strengthen organizational leadership. The enterprises should take such overall planning, base construction, product quality, scientific research, brand creation, development of standards, etc. properly. Marketing organizations should strengthen construction of non-governmental organization, provide product information services, developing marketing strategies, complete sales network.Currently, there are numerous domestic and international research articles on development of the bamboo industry, as well as bamboo cultivation, bamboo shoots nutrition analysis, preservation and processing. But there are still little articles on development of bamboo shoots industry. The main innovative points of this paper are to study Youxi bamboo shoot industry as a feature industry, provide a reference for promoting local economic development in Youxi and elsewhere where has featured industries with superior resources.
