Research On Establishment And Application Of Development Process Of Benchmarking

Benchmarking has been wildly used among modern automobile manufacturers asan important method to collect competitors’ information and set objects ofdevelopment. Most of well-known foreign manufacturers have established systematicBenchmarking separately. To survive in the huge domestic automobile market full ofintensive competition, the domestic automobile manufacturers are also active in theBenchmarking via which cost of development could be reduced, development cyclecould be shortened and new products could be more competitive.Initially, the foundational theory of Benchmarking and the present situation ofBenchmarking used by foreign and domestic manufactures were introduced in thispaper. Subsequently, considering the absence of Benchmarking developmentprocesses in the domestic automobile manufacturers, the disadvantages of traditionaldevelopment process was discussed. Then, a complete and comprehensiveBenchmarking Process was formed based on the conception of full life-cycledevelopment. This process consists of production planning, comprehensiveevaluation, performance testing, parameter measurement, scanning disassemble,reverse modeling, expert analysis etc... Several application cases of this processwere illustrated in the paper.There are intractable troubles in the traditional Benchmarking system on datamanagement, such as information organization and sharing. Product datamanagement system, what is so called PDM, is one of the solutions. The function ofPDM and how to manage the measurement reports, test reports, point cloud, analyzedata and3D engineering data for fast query with PDM system were introduced in theend of this paper.
