Studies On Efficient Ecological Pattern Of Sericulture Industry In Haining City Of Zhejiang Province

Sericulture is one of the important traditional competitive industries in Haining City. By2013, the total area of mulberry field in the whole city has reached5,400hm2with the sericulturists exceeding60,000households. The silkworm eggs raised have amounted to146,609boxes with the gross output of cocoons6,329t creating the total value of240million yuan. Admittedly, sericulture produces no pollution to the environment and such by-products as silkworm excrement, silkworm chrysalis, silkworm moth, ramulus mori and mulberries bear high value in use. However, it has been a long time that Haining employs a single production and operation mode of "planting mulberry-raising silkworms-cocooning-reeling silk-weaving silk". Sericulturists gain profits mainly by selling cocoons. With the decrease of sericulture’s comparative benefit, however, its production scale shrinks year by year. Therefore, the following issues have been discussed in recent years by both relevant departments of sericulture and insiders:how to utilize the by-products of sericulture comprehensively and systematically to develop new products, expand their functions, integrate the sericulture resources and extend the industrial chain so as to make the best use of all resources, realize industry transformation, upgrading and structural adjustment, and, consequently, enhance the economic, social and ecological benefits of sericulture as well as the competitiveness and risk resistance capacity of the industry.This paper mainly expounds the current situation of sericulture in Haining City and analyzes the internal and external factors which constrain the development of local sericulture. Through the survey of three major modes of sericulture in China, a development mode is put forward to fit the geographical environment of sericulture in Haining, to conform the developing objective of rural economic, and to correspond industry characteristics Finally, the paper provides dependable principles and suggestions for the transformation, promotion and sustainable development of sericulture in Haining.
