China has been entered WTO for ten years and implementing earnestly the promise that it made during the period. Chinese government adjusted the domestic polices to remain Chinese agriculture stable, even. though the competition is fierce and Chinese tariff level of agriculture is lower than many other countries. However, if China want to the agricultural products of our country stay competitive around the world, it must enhance the international competitiveness of the product and the whole agriculture. The natural conditions in China-significant monsoon climate, large span from the equator and terrain diversity-is very beneficial to development of the agriculture. In addition, abundant and cheap labor resource makes Chinese labor-intensive agricultural products have strong cost advantage. According to a survey conducted by FAO, Chinese agricultural population account for nearly sixty percent of the total population and only second to India. Moreover, many statistic data show that the competitive advantage of Chinese labor-intensive agricultural products is stronger than other kinds of Chinese agriculture products. Nevertheless, according to the analysis of time series data about Chinese labor-intensive agricultural products, its competitiveness diminish gradually recently. Especially in the transverse comparisons between countries, the labor-intensive agricultural products in China did not show enough competitiveness. Nowadays, improving the competitiveness of agricultural products gets more attention in the world, especially in developed countries represented by the European Union and some developing countries. And those countries try to enhance the competitiveness of agricultural products in many aspects:developing multifunctional agriculture, adjusting agricultural structure and polices, strengthen product quality supervision, etc. Therefore, China should cultivate the competitive advantage of its labor-intensive agricultural products so that it can remain the agricultural advantage position in the world.Firstly, this thesis gives a deep analysis of the international competitiveness of labor-intensive agriculture between China and other countries which belong to the world’s main labor-intensive agricultural exporters, so we can know the position of Chinese labor intensive agriculture in the world. Secondly, this thesis analyzes the various factors influencing China’s international competitiveness of labor-intensive agricultural products, which was based on Potter’s diamond model. Thirdly, according to the experiments of some EU countries and the national conditions in China, three policy suggestions to promote Chinese international competitiveness of labor-intensive agricultural products is proposed.Five chapters are contained in this thesis:Chapter one is the general introduction. This part mainly introduces the background, the significance of the topic, the research object and the methods and the innovation and the deficiency of the thesisChapter two is the introduction of relevant theories, including comparative advantage theory and International competition theory, and analyzes the relationship between the two theories.Chapter three mainly gives a comparison of the international competitiveness of five different kinds of labor-intensive agriculture between China and other countries which belong to the world’s main labor-intensive agricultural exporters, and analyzes it based on cobweb model.Chapter four analyzes the various factors that influence China’s international competitiveness of labor-intensive agricultural products under the frame of Potter’s diamond modelChapter five is the last part of this thesis. According to some experiences in the development of agriculture in some EU countries, three policy proposals are proposed to enhance Chinese international competitiveness of labor-intensive agricultural products.Based on the analysis above, this thesis draws such conclusions:among all of the main exports of labor-intensive agricultural products, vegetables have the strongest international competitiveness, no matter its quality or competitive performance; dairy product has the weakest international competitiveness and it can hardly be compared with advanced countries in the world. As to the whole picture, Chinese poor agricultural human resources quality, uneven government support policy, the imperfection of the related facilities development are the main reason that impede the development of China’s international competitiveness of labor-intensive agricultural product. Therefore, governments should put the quality of agricultural labor force in first place, gradually transform the mode of agricultural production and improve the utilization rate of publicservice resources.
