| Urbanization as a composite indicator reflects the level of modern civilization, is the foundation and motivation of social and economic development. Economic growth as the primary indicator of a country’s macroeconomic development, is the only way leading to modernization. In the urbanization process, urbanization exhibits its own law of unique evolutionary development, while showing a disorganized link between urbanization and economic development.First, theoretically speaking, from the trend of China’s urbanization and economic growth in the evolution process, the relationship between urban development and economic growth is not only the two mutual infiltration and but also promotes each other. Regional economic growth enables consumers to put forward higher requirements of consumer products, and thus promotes industrial restructuring, increasing the level of urbanization driven by the migration of rural labor to urban areas; At the same time, the improvement of urbanization will further the integration of resources, especially human resources, thus promotes rapid economic development.Second, based on the empirical analysis of the country’s time series data of urbanization rate and economic growth from1978to2013, it is concluded that there is a long-term dynamic equilibrium relation between China’s urbanization rate and economic growth, has denied the existence of urbanization lag. From the empirical results, we can see that due to the city economies of scale and agglomeration effects begin to be felt, the urbanization level has a stimulation impact on economic growth, and this positive role has exceeded the role of economic growth to urbanization. But due to the pressure of "urban disease" in the process of urbanization, the leading role on economic growth has be unstable. Instead, economic growth is lack of motivation due to the impact of the international economic environment, the role of economic growth in urbanization is weakening. All of that provides the basis for selecting models of urbanization in China. |
