Since the reform and opening, China’s automobile manufacturing industry hasgrown rapidly. In2009, the automobile production has become the largest autoproduction and sales. But the overwhelming superiority in production and sales can’trepresent rationality of the development of China’s automobile manufacturing industry.From the Industrial distribution point, the spatial distribution of automobilemanufacturing industry has some characteristics and its evolution has some rules.Therefore, the evolution progress of China’s automobile manufacturing industryand its major industries need to be explained in the paper, which use ArcGIS to describespatial distribution pattern of automobile manufacturing industry in1992,1997,2002,2007and2012. This paper elaborates every province’s variety of the distributionthrough calculating the proportion of production value of every province and its ranking,and elaborates the major distribution area through calculating the proportion ofproduction value of the three regions—the east, the middle and the west. Finally, usingthe space Gini coefficient to summarize, the results shows the spatial agglomerationdegree of the automobile manufacturing industry from1992to2012.The analysis shows the characteristic of phase of China’s automobilemanufacturing industry. Since1992China’s automobile manufacturing industry hasexperienced the progress from the fluctuant clustering to scatter and to clustering. Thewhole industry gradually gathered to the east regions. There are big differences inspatial distribution between the various industries. Since1992, automobile factory hasexperienced the progress from the rapid agglomeration to fluctuant scatter and to rapidscatter and to stable agglomeration; car manufacturing industry has experienced theprogress from the clustering to scatter and to rapid clustering and to scatter; themotorcycle manufacturing industry has experienced the progress from the clustering toscatter and to clustering and to fluctuant scatter and to clustering and to scatter; vehicleengine manufacturing industry has experienced the progress from the clustering toscatter and to fluctuant clustering; car and motorcycle parts manufacturing industry has experienced the progress from the clustering to fluctuant scatter and to clustering. Allthe industries gradually is clustering to the east in addition to the car manufacturingindustry.Based on the traditional trade theory and new economic geography, analyzing thefactors,which is policies factors, traffic convenience, historical factors, industryassociation degree and science and technology talents. While policies factors isimportant to the space distribution, the economic factors play the crucial role.
