With the innovation and breakthroughs of science and technology, manycountries are faced with the issues of increasing oil prices, the financial crisis, and thehuge pressure on energy saving. Therefore, many countries started to pay moreattention to research and develop of new energy vehicles and its industrialization. Forthe major industrialized countries, such as the United States, European countries, andJapan, their policy support for new energy vehicles gradually increased. In addition,these industrialized countries selected their development strategies of new energyvehicles when considering their own energy situations and technology developmentstrengths. It is meaningful to the Chinese automotive industry to develop its own newenergy vehicles industry. In the current situation, new energy automobile industry inour county is still in its early stage of development. Also, the technical route is notclear and there are many problems.However our country’s automobile industry is facing the challenges of energyconsumption and serious environmental pollution. Due to the lack of core technologyin our country’s automobile industry and the backward development of independentbrand, our county is still an industry follower although China ranks the first place inauto sales. At present, the automotive industry in China is faced with a critical periodof transforming from traditional cars to new energy vehicles. At the same time, now isthe best time for our country to catch up and surpass other countries.Firstly, this article introduced the research background and significance. Secondly,the necessity and the inevitability of new energy vehicles development analysis arepointed out, which is based on the sustainable development theory and industry lifecycle theory. Thirdly, this article analyzed the current development stage of newenergy vehicles in China and the United State in order to find out the issues of new energy vehicles development in China. Fourthly, the development strategies arecompared between China and the United States by using the “Diamond Model” andSWOT analysis method to illustrate the industrial competitiveness of industrialdevelopment in China. Finally, the solutions of industrial development strategies inChina are discussed.
