As an ancient form of enterprise organization, family business still widely exists in the world today and it plays a significant role in the global market economy. With the30years of reform and opening up, family business in our country has been flourishing and accomplishments that amaze the world has been achieved, which make tremendous contributions to the rapid development of economy and society and to increasing the employment. Now it’s the critical moment for successors to inherit the family business from the older generation entrepreneurs because the latter are generally close on sixty years old after thirty years’ adventure and signs for gradual degradation have emerged in physical condition, knowledge structure and sensitivity to market. In our country, an unprecedented family business succession will be ushered within the next ten to fifteen years. Judging from the development course of family business, intergenerational inheritance is the crucial turning point for its steady and sustainable development and selecting appropriate successors becomes particularly important. Correspondingly, a series of issues such as how to evaluate successors and what are the appraisal criteria need to be resolved. Therefore, the issue concerning the family business succession has become a problem both for older generation entrepreneurs and for people from all walks of life. Nevertheless, family businesses in our country are relatively young and inexperienced due to the shorter development course. Scholars’ research on family business is relatively lagged, especially on succession issue.Grounded on what has been expounded above, this paper concludes the predicament encountered by family business in our country through analyzing the status quo and discusses the issue to explore some possible solutions. Furthermore, this paper analyzes the possibility of introducing professional manager. In the end, research on the evaluation of succession candidates is conducted by establishing a comprehensive evaluation model with the theoretical approaches of Fuzzy Mathematics. What the author expects is to offer some beneficial reference for selecting family business successors so that successful succession and sustainable development can be achieved.
