Transportation industry is the fundamental and pioneering industry of the national economy, it is closely related to the growth of economic, there has a interaction and influence between the two. In 2013, General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed the strategic concept of building the State "Silk Road economic belt", he emphasizes to achieve interoperability along with the region’s economy, the key is connected to each other by road; Gansu Province in the "Silk Road economic belt" golden section, and have more than one important node of city, the government has issued the segment construction overall plan of "silk road economic belt", pointed out that gansu province will further promote the construction of comprehensive transport hub, and ascend gansu euro-asian continental bridge section of understanding ability, promote the acceleration of railway and highway construction. The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank was established in 2014, it will provide strongly financial support to the construction of infrastructure in Asia, some experts pointed out that infrastructure investment will become a direct current driving force for further economic growth under the background of the global economic downturn, and therefore the research of the relationship between transportation and economic growth has special practical significance.In such a context, the development of transportation industry in Gansu Province not only ushered a good opportunity but also facing a severe challenge, although since the implementation of the western development strategy, transportation industry has got ten a rapid development in Gansu Province, the scale of transportation infrastructure construction is expanding gragually, but the transport supply still can not meet the transportation demands overall. In view of this, In view of this, this article choose the relationship between transportation and economic growth as the research object, on the basis of theoretical research on the relationship between them the paper selected to the relationship between transportation and economic growth as the research object, focusing on the empirical research in Gansu on the basis of the theoretical research, The purpose is through the empirical analysis to clear current situation of the development of transportation industry in gansu province and the relationship between them, so as to provide corresponding policy suggestions for the government.This paper describes the present conditions of the transportation industry and economic growth in Gansu province firstly; Secondly, combing the domestic and foreign research result on the relationship between transportation and economic growth, construct the theory frame of the relationship between them; Then the author carried on the empirical analysis about the relationship between them on the basis of the Gansu province statistical data from 1978 to 2013.The empirical study mainly analyzes the cointegration relationship and the causal relationship between them, using the method of Grey correlation to analyze the main factor influence on economic growth in transportation system.The empirical results show that there is a cointegration relationship between the development of transportation industry and economic growth in Gansu province,the development of them is long-term equilibrium. The development of Gansu province transportation industry promoted the economic growth to a certain extent. With a unit of transportation invest additional, the GDP will increase 0.0799 units, with per unit additional of freight traffic volume, the GDP will be increased by 1.0868 units. The granger causality test shows that there is only one-way causal relationship between economic growth and the development of the transportation industry in Gansu province, economic growth to support the development of the transportation industry.The Grey correlation analysis showed that there has a high correlation between them, the effect of transport of goods on economic growth is bigger, the influence of Road transportation is more evident.Transport elasticity coefficient and grey dynamic coordination model analysis results show that the development between them are not harmonious, transportation industry lags behind the economic growth, especially the lag of development of railway transportation has become restricting factors to the further development of Gansu economy, the supply of transportation railway is less than the demand. Finally, aiming at the conclusion of the empirical analysis, the paper puts forward four countermeasures and suggestions to promote the development of transportation industry in Gansu province.
