The Spatial-temporal Evolution Of Urban EconomicDisparity In Jiangxi Province

Cities and regions are an interrelated and interacting organic whole.As a regional economic pole, cities impact on the regional economic disparity by polarization and diffusion, which show the economic differences of the center city. Therefore, it has the important practical significance to research the regional coordinated development from the perspective of the center city economic disparity.To illustrate the city structure system characteristics in Jiangxi province, the city’s economic disparity evolution law of space and time, the characteristics of spatial-temporal variations of the city’s comprehensive economic level pattern. Though selecting 20 cities in Jiangxi province as the research object and 2001 to 2013 for the study period, this article calculates the range, standard deviation, coefficient of variation and Gini coefficient of single indicator GDP per capita to analyze the time evolution of urban economic disparity; and calculates the index deviation, ratio, the relative development rate,Theil index of single indicator GDP per capita to analyze the space evolution of urban economic disparity.By building the measure index system of comprehensive level of urban economy, using principal component analysis(PCA) to measure the score on the comprehensive level of urban economy respectively in 2001, 2006 and 2013, and the spatial-temporal evolution and phenomenon of metastasis of urban comprehensive economic level pattern were studied by using the Markov state transfer probability matrix. The results showed as follow:(1) cities located in the southern and northern of Jiangxi province are uneven,which tend to be along the Beijing-Kowloon, Zhe-Gan and other major transport axes.The geographic conditions is the key factor that decide the distribution of the city,which trend to locating in the region of plains, basins, etc where suitable for agricultural production, better natural geographical position. The urban scale system is perfect, the concentration of population in Nanchang is outstanding, but the other big cities development is insufficient, and mainly small and medium-sized cities in Jiangxi province.(2)Since 2001, there is an absolute difference of urban economy growing in the cities of Jiangxi province, and the characteristic of periodic fluctuation of the relative difference is obvious, but the tendency tended to decrease overall. Economic development lever is unbalanced between the cities, but economic development levelof prefecture cities are better than the cities at the county level in general, and the relative differences between prefecture cities and county cities is reducing. From the Theil index, the overall difference of urban economy is dominated by regional economic difference among cities and caused by the economic differences between prefecture cities and county cities, and the economic disparity between cities at the county level is not big.(3)Urban comprehensive economic level is divided into four types, which are higher level, high level and low level and lower level. We find that “Chang-Jiu-Jing”golden triangle as a higher level of economic development city; and the south region lack the high level city which have strong economic radiation capacity, which is given priority to with low economic level and lower level of economic city; and there is a significance economic development urban areas of low and lower level of city in the middle of the Zhe-Gan Railway; and there is a larger fluctuate economic development in the northeast of Jiangxi province; and high level of economic development is relatively stable in Pingxiang and Xinyu.(4) By using Markov state transition matrix to analysis the space-time evolution of city’s economic development level, we find that city state is relatively stable in the economic development of higher level and lower economic development, but city economy is prodigious economic fluctuation at a high level or low level of cities,which means have the possibility of horizontal transfer to a higher or lower level,however, it did not appear a wide range situation of transfer to a higher level.
