Land use/cover change is the natural factor affecting human survival and development, being closely related to global climate change, loss of biodiversity, evolution of ecological environment. And it’s the core issue of sustainable development, having close relationship with various human productions, business activities, the human-nature relation. It needs attention and positive research. Land use/cover change is affected by both natural factors and human factors. Only by understanding the various driving forces of land use change, then a better understanding and mastering to the law of the land use change could be achieved to predict the future development trend of the land use change, and formulate the corresponding sustainable land use decisions. Due to the short-term stability of the natural factors, the study of social and economic driving forces of land use change play a key role in explaining land-use change and establishing land-use change prediction models, has become the focus of research. Research on land use/cover change is focused on the global, nationwide, and regional scale. There are few city-county-township regional scale researches. The study of the driving force is also focus on the macroscopic scale, but the case study for the micro-scale is less involved. China has vast territory with complex, diversified climate types and significant differences of geological features. Therefore, land use change on small scale is necessary in our country. Rural lands are one of the main part of our land structure, it is profound about the research of rural land issues which has a direct influence on whether rural land management is in proper way, whether land use is sustainable, and other important issues. Farmers are the basic unit of rural land user, therefore it is necessary from the perspective of the farmers to analyze the problem, in order to carry out further studies of rural land use change and driving forces. Through the behavioral model of farmers’ land usage to analyze the reasons of their behaviour, land usage process and result, a further exploration of the driving force of rural land use change can be achieved. Thus,we can find the root of the problem and take measures to change the situation when land-use experiences an negative instability.Xishuangbanna is located at the northern edgr of tropical Asia, it has the largest tropical rain forest in china. It is the area that possess the largest tropical forest ecosystem types and national nature reserve. Xishuangbanna also recognized as one of the major international biodiversity conservation hotspot. Anyway due to the region’s increasingly population pressure, influences of the traditional extensive farming method and the social and economic policies, swidden area had increasesed more deforestation for rubber planting being seen. All these led to severe deforestation, secondary forest increase, land use/cover change dramatically, it has attracted more and more scholars concerning any possibility affections on this issue. Although currently there have been an enormous amount of research about Xishuangbanna land use/cover change both locally and worldwide, but research that based on the perspective of farmers have yet be seen, for this reason, this article is set to explore the perspective from farmers to analyze the problem, through a combination of official data and collected field data, using linear regression analysis, grey relational analysis and formula to estimate the proportion of income comprehensively analysis socio-economic reasons leading to Xishuangbanna land use/cover change in recent years. This article contains the following six sections:Part I:Introduction. This part describes the background of this article, research progress on land use/cover change from local to oversea, research methods and content of this article.Part II: The general situation in the study area. This part mainly introduces the physical geography, socio-economic situation and the land use change in recent years of Xishuangbanna.Part III: Analysis of farmers’ income composition. This part analyses the rural economic structure and internal structure of rural farming of Xishuangbanna. By considering output of crops, rubber planting areas, dry rubber yield and per capita net income of farmers, By using linear stepwise regression analysis method to show now the rubber planting promote regional farmers’ income growth at Xishuangbanna.Part IV: Economic accounting for the farmers’ income. This part selects Mengla town as the sample area, and further expounds the rubber growing impact on the farmers’ income using grey relational analysis and formula to estimate the proportion of income.Part V:Rubber planting and land use change. This part introduces the development history of rubber and economic benefits of rubber planting in Xishuangbanna first, and then expounds the rubber planting effect on land use/cover, finally describes the rubber planting impact on the ecological environment and puts forward the countermeasures for protecting the tropical rain forest.Part VI: Conclusion and discussion. This part makes a further integration of the conclusion of this paper, briefly summarizes the main research conclusions of this paper, furthermore points out the shortage of the paper and the reasons, and envisages further study. From this article, the conclusion is as follows:(1)Tea,rubber plantation and per capita net income of farmers have higher degree of fitting. When the rubber planting area increased by 1 hectare, the farmers’ income increased by 8620 yuan. When the tea planting area increased by 1 hectare, the farmers’ income increased by 1112 yuan. Obviously, the rubber planting can lead to a higher income for the farmers. On the other side, due to the limitations of soil, temperature, terrain and other circumstances, farmers will be more incline to plant rubber which has a less restriction, in order to obtain larger profit.(2)Through grey correlation analysis, total income of rural economy have closest correlation with farming income and forestry income in seven villages of Mengla town. The traditional agricultural economic crops in Mengla town include rice, sugarcane, rubber, amomum, fruit, vegetables, etc, with rubber products as its pillar industry. This is determined by the location and the natural climatic conditions of the area, the government’s all kinds of development planning and economic stimulus also play an important role.(3)Based on the calculation formula of farmers’ income proportion, concludes that in most villages of Mengla town by increasing the same acreage in proportion, rubber planting could bring more income than cultivation of other cash crops and traditional food crops, therefore farmers will choose to plant rubber trees that could bring more revenue instead of those traditional food crops and other cash crops planted which need more complicated process.
