Study On Spin-off Based On The Interactive Drive Between Entrepreneur Characteristics And Experiences

The phenomenon of spin-off is a breakthrough in the area of economic and the study on it enriches the present theory about entrepreneurship. Recently, more and more scholars have begun to pay close attention to this new business economic phenomenon. Spin-off is a new form of economic entity, which comes from the parent organization. The new economic entity is associated with the parent organization, but it often has its unique properties. In the field of Entrepreneurship Research, Spin-off is a special kind of enterprise to enter the market. The embedded relationships between the parent organization and the spin-off are the basic characteristics of the entrepreneurial activities. In recent years, spin-off in western countries has being developed rapidly, which has been the important driving force of the innovative scientific, technological achievements, social and economic development. And in China, the economic is experiencing the period of transition which is beneficial to entrepreneurial activities, so spin-off has appeared in various fields.Although more and more scholars have studied on spin-off and achieved many results, their view of research is from the enterprise itself, rarely focus on the entrepreneurs who founded the enterprise and handle the subsequent development. Therefore, whether from the view of enriching research dimension of spin-off or from the view of mining of entrepreneurs’ own characteristics and the accumulation of experiences, it is necessary to speed up studying on spin-off and the relationship between entrepreneurs and the development of enterprise to compensate for the lack of appropriate literature and case studies achievements.The theoretical basis of this paper is the theory of spin-off and the relevant theory about characteristics and previous experiences. The paper collected the initial data by case study and in-depth interview method. Through interviewing and communicating with the entrepreneur of the case company, the paper acquired a lot of useful information. The case company is a trade enterprise in Qingdao which is founded after the founder left his parent company, it has the characteristics of spin-off and has been influenced by the characteristics and experiences of its founder. Therefore, the case provides a very important value for the research of this paper. Through analyzing the case by Grounded Theory, this paper obtains a driven interaction model about the characteristics and experiences accumulated by the entrepreneur, and this model reflects the factors influencing the foundation and development of spin-off companies. Through analyzing this model, the paper provides several advices for other entrepreneurship based on the current state.This paper is divided into 6 chapters. The first chapter describes the paper’s background, significance, the current research status in relevant areas and a brief description of the paper, methods and innovations. The second chapter is a literature review of the theory of spin-off and entrepreneur characteristics and experiences in accordance with the aim of this research topic. The third chapter provides the research thoughts of this paper, and makes a brief introduction about the case company, and analyzes the raw materials from a theoretical view, then puts forward the research design of this paper. The fourth chapter mainly uses the method of Grounded Theory to study on the materials and data of case company, through open coding, axial coding and selective decoding, extracting a driven interaction model about entrepreneur characteristics and experiences which affect the foundation and development of spin-off. The fifth chapter concludes the research results and puts forward some advices respectively from the view of entrepreneur and the view of company according to the above research. The sixth chapter summarizes the achievements and shortcomings of this paper, and puts forward some ideas and prospects for the future research.
