A Study On Impact Of Ningbo’s Outward Direct Investment On Export Commodity Structure

Since the reform and opening up, China’s foreign trade and outward direct investment have achieved tremendous growth.The export commodity structure is closely connected with the overall efficiency of a certain country or an area. Through optimizing the structure of export commodity, more benefits in international trade can be obtained and the economical development can be promoted. Along with the implementation of the “going out” strategy, and in 2014, "A Road and The Area" concept puts forward to build the 21 st century Maritime Silk Road and the Silk Road Economic Zone, the pace of Ningbo enterprises in outward direct investment also will increase. The research of the OFDI’s economic impact on the export commodity structure in Ningbo will have important research value and practical significance.This paper takes Ningbo and similar domestic city as the research object, from the angle of comparison to study the OFDI’s economic impact on the export commodity structure. The second part studies the relationship of OFDI and export commodity structure on the macro-level, exploring the theoretical mechanism of impact, which provides theoretical support for the study of the OFDI’s impact on the export commodity structure. The third part systematically summarizes the status quo of OFDI and export commodity structure, based on the comparative analysis between Ningbo and similar domestic city, revealing the current problems after the financial crisis of the export commodity structure of Ningbo. The forth part of the paper examines the relationship between OFDI and the export commodity structure, verifying OFDI’s impact on the export commodity structure. Using quantitative analysis method based on 10 cities which in the similar level of economic development with Ningbo, exports data from 2007 to 2012, it tests the impact of OFDI on the export commodity structure and other factors affecting export commodity structure optimization. And further it analyses the differences in different regions. According to the empirical results,we found that OFDI has actively improves the export commodity structure. Among them, the impact of technological advances in the technology spillover effect of factors on the export commodity structure is relatively weak, in comparison,and the impact of human capital factors effect is bigger. Through individual fixed effects also found that the more developedeconomies of the region, are more sensitive to the impact of its OFDI effect on the export commodity structure. Finally, considering these results, this paper presents conclusions and policy recommendations to optimize Ningbo’s export commodity structure.
