Economic liberalism thought has an important role in the development of the market economy,especially China is building a socialist market economy, so the study on economic liberalism thought is very necessary. The period of classical economics is the source of economic liberalism thought, Thomas Sowell is a representative figure of Chicago school, his economic liberalism thought has the characteristics of the conservative, so the comparative study of economic liberalism thought of the two that can be traced back to the source, but also can view its changes, which is important for our country in the economic reform process from a reasonable economic freedom doctrine thought.Influence of economic liberalism thought is influenced by liberalism, its development process can be divided into the stage of classical and neo-classical, the turning point is the rise of the neo-liberalism at the end of nineteenth Century to the early twentieth Century.Although Thomas Sowell lives in the neo-classical stage, but his economic liberalism thought is appeared to return to the classical economic liberalism, it is not simply to reiterate the view of the classical economic liberalism, but a rational view about how to deal with the relationship of the free market economy and modern state intervention.Firstly, from the development process of liberalism and its basic concept,we can see liberal is the main vein which is behind the development of economic liberalism; secondly, we could observe the classic economic liberalism from a broad perspective, and draw the basic content of the classic economic liberalism; again,on Thomas Sowell’s economic liberal thought issummarized, and corroborated by introducing Thomas Sowell’s life and social points of view; finally, through the comparison of the economic liberalism thought of classical economics and Thomas Sowell, the similarities and differences between the two are concluded,we can also obtain reference.
