In the context of economic globalization and production informatization, the urban agglomeration becomes a globally-valued city-region development pattern and space assembly mode as they have sufficient economic scale for city competition, labor division and cooperation. In recent years, the word“urban agglomeration” has been written into the development planning of China for many times. The construction of urban agglomeration has become an important strategic deployment of regional economic development. In 2015, China’s nation-class urban agglomerations expanded up to five, in which the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration was included. As its regional strategic position unprecedented enhanced, the studies of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration fit the development needs for this region to a higher degree. Industrial development and transport infrastructure are two important supports for the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration development. Meanwhile, the Industrial development and transport infrastructure show a relationship of interaction and interplay. On the one hand, improving the transport infrastructure will promote the free flowing of the key factors, benefiting the launching of industrial production activities, the expansion of industrial scales and a proper layout of industries. On the other hand, the industrial spatial layout and structure have significant impacts on the spatial layout of transport infrastructure together with its scale and structure. Furthermore, the industrial scale expansion, the economic benefit promotion and the technology advancements can provide funds as well as technical supports for the transport infrastructure constructions.Based on the regional development demands and the interaction between industrial development and transport infrastructure, the inter-relationship of those two systems in Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration is studied in this thesis, choosing the coupling relationship as a methodological support which is commonly used in system relationship researches. In the first place, the related researches of the industrial development and transport infrastructure, the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration and the coupling relationship are theoretically reviewed. The previous achievements and defects are summarized. The development status of industrial development and transport infrastructure construction in this region are analyzed. Also specifically analyzed is the coupling mechanism of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration by using the ellipse theory. The empirical analysis of the coupling relationship between industrial development and transport infrastructure is then performed through setting up index system and building the coupling and coupling coordination model as well. In the end of this thesis, relevant policy suggestions are proposed in the foundation of theoretical and empirical analysis.The following conclusions can be drawn consequently: 1.Reducing the negative impact of industry on the urban ecological environment and improving the industrial ecological environment effect will play the most significant role in promoting the overall industrial development in Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration. 2. The development of transport infrastructure subsystems lags behind the industrial subsystems in Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration over a long time period. The industrial economic benefit, the industrial culture environment and the industrial scales are advantages in the industrial subsystems. While in the transport infrastructure subsystems, the advantage of road construction is dominated. 3. From the point of coupling degree, the “industrial development-transport infrastructure” system in Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration experiences a process from running-in phase to antagonistic stage and then to high level of coupling phase. From the view of coupling coordination degree, this system goes through low level coordination to moderate coordination, then to high coordination and finally to extreme coordination. The overall coordination development of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration is comparatively reasonable.
