A Study On The Spatial Structure And Development Trend Of Chengdu - Chongqing Urban Agglomeration

Urban agglomeration is the spatial structuring model of advanced urbanization, and the economic effects of it play a considerable role in promoting the development of the whole society. The urban agglomeration is one of the national strategies of China, which supports the construction of the whole urban system. In decades, China has cultivated a number of large urban agglomeration. Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration, as the strongest economy in western China, is still in her primary stage of development with many problems and contradictions to conquer. The study might identify the gap with other mature economies and summarize experience and point out the direction of development. On this basis, it can provide an effective coordinated developing mechanism for other urban intensive areas, which is also the significance of this study.This paper analyzes the present situation of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration spatial structure from population, economy, industries and cities, reckoning the development should focus on the construction of Chengdu-Chongqing metropolitan areas, and the spatial pattern of “one axis and three belt”. As to the spatial relations, the transportation network structure has been analyzed, and the gravity model has been introduced to analyze the economic relations of the urban agglomeration.Through analysis, realizing there are unavoidable obstacles in the development process of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration, this paper concludes the key of healthy development, besides the decisive role of the market, is improving the role of government and put forward relevant countermeasures and suggestions.
