When enterprise grows to a certain scale, it is necessary for scale competition up to operations competition. However it is not easy to improve corporate operations capabilities. Sometimes the fate of a corporate is also influenced by the ―butterfly effect”, for example the loss prevention problems which Carrefour China faced in recent times. Inaccuracy stock inventory result, free goods and gift merchandise management confusion, improper store performance appraisal standard, receiving yard and garbage management chaos, wildly internal and external theft, any problem would lead huge loss to Carrefour stores. Based on 22 Carrefour supermarket stores in Guangdong province, this thesis adopts the method of theoretical discussion and normative research. In writing this thesis, the literature review analysis, data analysis and case study methods are used. In addition to this four important methods, company operation observation method and internal expert interview method are also applied. This thesis is based on Strategic Management, Operations Management, Organization Behavior, discussed stores’ high loss problems with the rapidly expanding market share, and Carrefour must take relevant modification and optimization for its loss prevention system.The body of this paper is divided into six parts. The first part is introduction. It is mainly about the purpose, meaning, theme, and research method of this paper. The second part is Literature Review in which the basic concepts, relevant literatures and analysis tools used in this paper will be introduced in detail. The third part is case description. This part presents the general situation of Carrefour China, its history, current situation and future challenge. In addition some typical interview of Carrefour employee, supplier, and mid-level manager would reflect the real problem Carrefour faced. In the following fourth part, it mainly covered ―to understand what the loss is‖, ―who responsible for the loss‖ and ―actions to against the loss‖. And in the fifth part the author will provide specific suggestions for optimizing internal loss prevention system of Carrefour stores. Finally, the sixth part is the general summarize of the strategy and tactics for optimizing internal loss prevention system of Carrefour stores as well as the vision of future study in this subject.This thesis is the main conclusions are: Carrefour Guangdong Stores must establish relevant effective loss prevention system adapt to local market, develop relevant managerial skills and tools adapt to local market, and correct their original mistakes about loss prevention management. Then they could occupy a place in the fierce competition.
