An Analysis On Elements And Intensity Of Island Attachment

With the further development of industrialization, Chinese people have payed more and more attention to recreation activities. Especially in recent years, many more island countries have offered landing VISA to China, which has caused a boom of island tourism in China and also the academic attention on it.In order to understand what elements of islands Chinese visitors have attached and how the attachment strength is, this study conducts the research on Chinese visitors in the perspective of tourism experience from two parts:(1) With the method of content analysis, this paper extracts high frequent words about island elements from 50 online island travel blogs, the island elements is divided into six items, which is the natural landscape, cultural landscape, figures, animals, static activity, dynamic activity. Also it extracts a large number of vocabularies about tourists’ perception and evaluation, based on which this paper makes the island tourism experience formation diagram;(2) Via depth interviews and metaphor extraction technology, respondents were invited to provide certain island tour photos to vividly display their place attachment on the island and talk about the story and unique significant meaning behind the photos they offered, thus analyze the composition of tourists’ place attachment and explore the evolution and progressive characteristics of place attachment strength of island visitors from China.This research shows that:(1) There are three kinds of Chinese tourists’ place attachment elements include background elements, which reflect local circumstances and atmosphere, experience elements promoting people to interact deeper and more with natural and emotional elements enhancing visitors’ place attachment on the island.(2) There are differences between tourists on place attachment strength, from weak to strong the order is place dependence based on functional attachment, place identity based on the emotional attachment and root complex based on spiritual attachment.(3) The formation of root complex is not only originated from repeatedly deep involvement from visitors to the natural environment, but also from the information accumulation and media influence before visiting.
