The limited space of ur gency and polic ies of economic restructur ing industr ial upgrading requires C hinese enterprises ident ify and far mers, whic h is inseparable from the autonomy of engineering innovat ion. However, due to the comp lexit y of t he sc ient ific and technologica l research of engineering systems and changes in the market arduous uncertaint y, engineering inno vation is a kind of high- risk act ivit ies. However, because of vario us reasons the case of fa ilure in engineering innovatio n has rarely informat ion in disc losing detail. It is the comb inatio n of a number of technical r isk research which stays in the paper, result ing in insuffic ie nt engineering innovat ion r isk theory.This paper exa mines C hina’s automot ive diese l engine industry, carried out engineering phase whic h adapted our electronically contro lled diesel fue l injection syste ms under break overseas High Pressure Commo n Rail fue l injection system of the "technica l barriers " in innovat ion activit ies. A long w ith the increasingly str ingent nat ional vehic le emiss ions regulat ions and rapid advance ment of vehicle diesel engine techno logy as well as the introductio n of related techno log y costs decline, C hina’s diesel engine enterprises have to give up R & D and applicatio n of electronically contro lled fue l injection syste m of a large number of resources in favor of the use of fore ign High Pressure C ommon Rail fue l inject ion system. This stud y sort out innovat ion infrastruct ure projects on C hina’s auto motive diese l industr y, as the influence of perspective of t he cause of the fa ilure of Engineering I nnovat ion. First, because of lack of technical leve l diese l engine electronica lly controlle d fue l inject ion syste m, the engineering innovat ion is uns uccessful. Second, the cost of investment is excessive ly high t hat exceeding the bus iness load. Third, corporate profits remain at low le vel; inevitably lead the R&D invest ment ine vitably to a vic io us cycle of insuffic ient.In this study, the fact that innovat ion in engineering fa ilures of auto diesel engine ind ustry, confir m and enr ich the engineering inno vation "barrier- trap" theory, which results of fa ll into the "technolo gy trap" in using low leve ls of technology trying to circumvent foreign technical barriers. From the reverse side illustrate the princ iples of product development s hould be fo llowed. The fa ilure of engineering innovat ion case stud ies and research would contr ibute to theoretical and practica l significance of engineering innovat ion.
