With the fast development of society and economic, the public in China show an increasing requirement for comprehensive health service. In comparison, health resources especially those with high-quality are quite deficient and unbalanced distributed. To deal with this, the tertiary hospitals devote large financial resources into the construction of ward buildings in recent years. These constructions are usually large-scale projects, with multiple participants, high construction standard and long-term building period. Also the success of projects impact directly the quality of health service. Therefore the risk management plays an important role in the construction of ward buildings. This study focuses on the ward building construction project of Qilu children’s hospital of Shandong university (CPQHSU) by using qualitative and quantitative methods, literature review and case study, field survey, the combination of theory and practice, and the combination of empirical and normative analysis. Literature review, expert interview and questionnaire allow us to have a comprehensive understanding of the risk of CPQHSU. The results of our study are finally demonstrated by cases, and solutions for risk management are provided. In this study the theoretical foundation of risk management for project is analyzed, which is following by describing the risk types, identification, analysis and evaluation of risk as well as the theory and methods for risk response and monitor. Basing on the risk identification theory, the risk identification, analysis and response for ward building CPQHSU is studied. The risk management is conducted to ensure CPQHSU can complete smoothly, and to provide theoretical foundation and models for the risk study of this project.
