Research On The International Path Of Latecomer Firms In Paradox Perspective

Latecomer Firms usually face the dual-disadvantage of technology and market,which results in responding to tension of cooperation technology and independent market, and the tension is source of paradox and persists in all internationalization process. Therefore, latecomer firms need iterating response tension between independent market and cooperation technology to reach a dynamic balance, and the technology and market achieve the overall balance. But how do latecomer firms make technology and market achieve balance in the internationalization process and what is the process of balance, which has barely involved in existing literatures.Based on such a background, this study selects three typical of emerging market latecomer firms as the research object in paradox perspective, and then the acquired all the longitudinal process events using the event path analysis method, depicts reflecting latecomer firms in the internationalization process of independence and cooperation to acquire technology and market event trends based on the event of classification, through process analysis, proposition discussion and reach the following conclusions:Under the dual-disadvantages of technology and market,(1) latecomer firms and foreign enterprises have a technological cooperation at the same time independently develop overseas market, both independent technology and cooperation market play role in buffering, which is latecomer firms responses to foreign enterprises interdependence, and latecomer firms achieve strategic flexibility.(2) cooperative market’s buffering for technical cooperation and independent market is from gradually strengthened to stable process in the latecomer firms’ internationalization process, but independent technology is gradually strengthened. This is the gradual release of organizational capability process, and realizing the goal of catching up with technology.(3) latecomer firms reach technology and market balance in the internationalization process when technology and market is from separation to integration gradually, which promotes the coordinative development of technology and market. This study finds that cooperation and independence in the field of technology and market can exist at the same time, can also be separated by time and sequence, but latecomer firms in the process of internationalization through continuous dynamic adjustment of resources acquisition achieve an overall balance of technology and market. Latecomer firmsacquire their own flexibility and resilience in the process of managing organizational paradox, and also make trade-off decisions in the face of different targets, which further illustrates organizational paradox is not only unique for latecomer firms, but also crucial,internationalization really fosters enterprises’ dynamic capabilities. This study extracts latecomer firms’ balance path in the internationalization process based on the previous process analysis subsequently. Finally, theoretical and management implications were put forward by this study based on above analysis.
