Study On The Development Of Modern Agriculture In Minhou County

Nowadays, urban modern agriculture has become an inextricable part of the agricultural modernization and urbanization. The development of urban modern agriculture is geared to the economic restructuring, especially to the agroeconomic restructuring. It is of necessity in the process of achieving agricultural modernization, advancing the targeted poverty alleviation and completing the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects. Minhou County, dubbed as Fuzhou’s backyard garden, has made some achievements in recent years on the development of urban modern agriculture. In the larger picture of the new normal economic development and the acceleration of the industrial transformation and upgrading, further rapid and sustainable development of urban modern agriculture is the inexorable requirement for the acceleration of the economic development in Minhou County. The development of modern agriculture in Minhou County enjoys the perfect location, abundant natural resources, favorable humanistic and cultural conditions and other advantages, but also faces some challenges.Under the basic theoretical framework of urban modern agriculture, especially the theories on urban economy, agricultural location, industrial structure optimization and agricultural modernization, the author employs the related methods to make a thorough study on the development of urban modern agriculture in Minhou County, summarizes the experiences and practices in Minhou County, points out the strengths and the existing problems, and then puts forward suggestions for the development strategies of urban modern agriculture in Minhou County. A case study on the Chessboard Village Scenic Spot is presented highlighting the successful experience and revealing the enlightenment for the future development of modern agriculture in Minhou County. The main conclusions of this paper are as follows:first, Minhou County has entered a key period of accelerating the transformation of traditional agriculture, and building a modern agriculture demonstration area in the economic circle of the capital city; second, Minhou County has the advantages of favorable government policies, ideal location, abundant natural resources, and a solid foundation to develop modern agriculture; third, Minhou County is also facing some problems, such as unclear view of the larger picture, insufficient capital investment, lack of resource integration, lack of competitive brands and leading enterprises, low level of agricultural science and technology, and lack of experts on modern agriculture; fourth, the government should strengthen the leadership and the overall planning, increase capital and technological investment, cultivate leading enterprises and attract experts, providing a strong guarantee for the development of urban modern agriculture; fifth, the combination of ecological, agricultural and cultural development contributed to the success of the development of the Chessboard Village Scenic Spot. It is evident that the successful development of urban modern agriculture relies on the good use of local resources, the active participation of the local farmers and brings revitalization of the agricultural resources to serve the main purpose of agricultural development.
