Nanxiong city is the main growing area of tobacco in Guangdong province with a long tobacco planting history of over 300 years, where there is suitable climate and soil for the growth of tobacco. The annual output of tobacco in Nanxiong city account for over 40% of Guangdong province. With the continuous development of our economy and society, many problems of the traditional tobacco agriculture emerge, such as low production efficiency, backward technology, the lack of guarantee of output and quality of tobacco. So the traditional tobacco agriculture has been not suitable for the development of our country. At present, tobacco production must be in accordance with the market demands. Methods of modern tobacco agriculture can help to increase the resource-utilization efficiency, improve the environment of tobacco production and the quality of tobacco, It can also help growers increase income and maintain the output and quality of tobacco. It can help to fundamentally change the shortage of traditional tobacco agriculture, which is of great significance.Combining theory with practice, the thesis elaborates the theoretical knowledge of modern tobacco agriculture and then the current situation of tobacco agriculture in Nanxiong city, including the natural conditions, the scale of production, economic performance and the development of tobacco cooperative organization. And then, SWOT analysis is used to analyse the strength, weakness, opportunity and threat during development of the modern tobacco agriculture in Nanxiong city, keeping the modern tobacco agriculture towards the right direction. Some domestic and foreign experiences are also introduced in this article. Linking the reality in Nanxiong city with the experiences above, we can obtain some experience and suggestions about how to develop the modern tobacco agriculture in Nanxiong city. At last, the thesis expatiates the basic thought and viewpoint of developing the modern tobacco agriculture, such as building up of infrastructure, mechanization of agriculture, the training of tobacco growers and productive organization forms.
