The level of science and technology development is one of the chief symbols to measure the comprehensive strength of a country and region. R&D investment is an important factor to improve the level of regional science and technology development. So, the study of the impact of R&D investment on regional technology innovation performance is significant.It is conducive to making the development strategy of R&D investment according to local condition. So as to improve the level of regional technological innovation performance and enhance the development of regional science and technology.Finally, realizing the sustainable development of the region.Embarking from this point, the paper has carried out an empirical analysis on the relationship between R&D investment and technological innovation performance. Adopting methods of combination qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. Analysing R&D input level, input intensity and input structure in a systematic way. Based on panel data from 2003 to 2014 about 30 provinces and megalopolises in our country, the paper studies the impact of R&D input on the regional technical innovation performance with the Eviews method.Also analyzing the different impact of R&D spending on the technical innovation performance in the eastern region, central region and western region. The result shows that the scale of R&D input is expanding constantly. There is relatively significant difference between different regions.The scale and the intensity of the input showing the gradient distribution from east to west. R&D funding comes from enterprise funds and government funds mainly. R&D expenditure is mainly used in the development of experiment. R&D funding and R&D personnel input has a significant positive role in technological innovation performance in all areas.The contribution of R&D funding is significantly greater than the contribution of R&D personnel input. There is significant difference in the impact of R&D investment on technological innovation performance in different regions. There is a positive correlation between different R&D activities and technology innovation performance in the various stages of research. The contribution of R&D funds expenditure is maximum in the research phase.The contribution of experiment is in second. The contribution of basic research is minimum.R&D funds from different sources have different effects on the technology innovation performance. The positive effect of the enterprise capital on technology innovation performance is most obvious. Then the governmental capital.The effect of other funds on the performance of technology innovation is not very significant.Hoping that each region can recognize the important role of R&D investment in the technological innovation performance and formulating scientific and reasonable policies to promote the development of R&D.
