The Analysis Of Regional Manufacturing Productivity And Industrial Structure

In recent years, structure change plays an important role in modern economic growth, productivity growth brought about by structural change is the key to promoting economic development. Since the 1980s, the rapid development of China’s manufacturing industry has become the engine of "Chinese economic miracle", and with the "world’s second largest industrial manufacturing country" status as a veritable "world factory". The development of manufacturing industry in two provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang is an important microcosm of China’s manufacturing industry. In recent years, especially after the world financial crisis in 2008, the two provinces of the manufacturing industry is facing enormous pressure of development, over-capacity, labor shortage, resource and environment constraints is particularly prominent. In this context, to study the influence on productivity brought about by the structure change in manufacturing industry is of practical significance to the development of Jiangsu and Zhejiang’s manufacturing industry.Based on the neoclassical growth theory and the theory of development economics, this article analyzes the economic mechanism through which, the structure change affect productivity. Based on the analysis of TPF growth trend of manufacturing in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, this article measure the role of structure change of manufacturing industry in productivity growth, and study its contribution to the technological progress and technical efficiency in this process.Based on the above study, this article draw the following conclusions:(1)In the past ten years, the TFP of manufacturing industries in Jiangsu and Zhejiang are in growth state except the Jiangsu’s agro-food processing industry and non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry. (2)Whether from the total output scale or growth rate, the manufacturing industry in Jiangsu is higher than in Zhejiang. The problem of similar industrial structure in two provinces is very important. (3)The change of industrial structure has a significant effect on the productivity of the two regions, and different structural factors have different functions. (4)Combining these findings and taking into account the background of the new industrial revolution, it is necessary to concern the integration of traditional industries and emerging industries that promote Jiangsu and Zhejiang’s structure change of manufacturing industry, and implement innovation driven development strategy, improve the international level of manufacturing industry.
