Dali Bai People’s Foreign Trade In Modern Times

From ancient times Dali have been called “an Area of Cultures and Intellectuals”. It was one of the trade centers and an important transportation hub in Southwestern China. That means Dali was not only an major city of the famous “South Silk Route” in history, but also a junction of some ancient trade routes, and Dali was also called “the Crossroads of Asian culture”. Bai People mainly located in Dali Basin and its surrounding areas,and it has a long history and a splendid culture. Bai merchants rose step by step, and formed two big Bai business groups, Heqing Entrepreneurs and Xizhou Entrepreneurs.This thesis focuses on the modern Dali Bai People’s foreign trade. Studying the development history and basic route of Dali Bai People’s foreign trade and analyzing Dali Bai People’s nationality and characters, and enlightening Dali and border areas’ foreign trade through comprehensively gathering and organizing materials about archives and historical accounts.Firstly, Dali Bai People is one of Chinese ethnic groups and their society has origins of Capitalism, which is very special. That means their trade was a pioneering activity, and the people is full of progressiveness.Secondly, the rise of Dali Bai People’s foreign trade could not live without the current situation, for instance, the environment of society and country. Otherwise, Dali Bai businessmen could not make achievements like that. However, just because Bai’s quality,culture, and business foundation.Thirdly, the development of Dali Bai People’s foreign trade could not live without the spacial geographical conditions and cultural environment. As long as some opportunities and platforms were right there, their success was inevitable. This thesis analyze the history of Bai People, and summarize the characters of Bai People, so that understand Bai’s trade culture deeply.Dali Bai merchants were important force in modern Yunnan foreign trade even theforeign trade of Southwest China, and they were also one of the most advanced groups in productivity. Dali Bai People made great achievements in foreign trade for the reason that they adapted to the international situation, social environment and political system which fully displayed Bai’s characters and historical significance. At the same time, the study, Dali Bai people’s foreign trade in modern times, is good for our thinking on foreign trade, economic development, national prosperity in border areas.
