With the rapid development of economy globalization, global sourcing has become usual procurement strategy, no matter what kinds of buyer, international or domestic, all have to face suppliers around the world. However, it is very difficult for buyers to find the right suppliers who meet the requirements of procurement. To solve this issue, the most efficient way is to assess and manage the suppliers with correct methods and reasonable criteria. Therefore, research on audit method and assessment criteria is important for practical application. The paper is mainly focus on research of methods and assessment criteria for supplier audit. The second party supplier audit method is introduced, and whole methods and assessment criteria based on ISO9000 total quality management are established. The main content of the paper is as following:Firstly, based on the research of related documents, methods of supplier audit and assessment on the basis of total quality management are introduced through researching of theories about audit and total quality management. Then, procedures and methods for supplier’s choosing and assessment are presented based on quality management. At the same time, supplier audit methods based on ISO9000 quality management system are emphasized, and total 18 assessment criteria are introduced as main criteria during supplier audit. Considering that buyer may not be capable to ascertain everything of suppliers because of lacking of professional knowledge and manpower, the second party supplier audit method carried out by independent third party is suggested. Detailed procedures and assessment methods for second party audit are established. Finally, based on the 18 assessment criteria, an actual supplier audit case is analyzed to show how to perform second party supplier audit and how to use AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method to assess the results of audit.
