With the continuous development of advanced manufacturing and production management, manufacturers gradually began to focus on customers individual needs and produce customized products, which has become the manufacturing trend in the future. Therefore, more and more enterprises apply mass customization to the production. The objective of mass customization is to satisfy customers individual needs by means of low-cost. On one hand, customers can participate in the product design process to put forward their own customized requirements. On the other hand, manufacturing companies adopt the standardized and modular production method to reduce production costs. In mass customization, CODP (Customer Order Decoupling Point) is one of the key factors to the efficiency of production system. In this paper, the position of CODP is analyzed based on adjustable machining operations in the production process. A large number of random events in the production process can lead to the local adjustment of machining operations, inducing the changes of customization level and manufacturing time, therefore, the position of CODP requires relocation. First, the production costs are analyzed based on the value chain of mass customization. Besides, the effects of operation adjustments are discussed and the positioning method of CODP based on adjustable machining operations is proposed. Additionally, the customization level of product is defined and under the limitation of delivery time and customization level, the positioning model of CODP based on minimum production cost is also established. Finally, an example is used to illustrate the validity of the proposed model.
