The Yangtze River economic belt is an inland river economic zone formed by the Yangtze River, which is the biggest river in China. The population and economy of the Yangtze River economic belt are more than 40% of the whole country, occupies an important position in the overall pattern of regional development in our country. Since the reform and opening up, China’s regional development pattern has undergone tremendous changes, the Yangtze River economic belt is no exception. To solve the problem of unbalanced and uncoordinated regional development has been one of the important goals of the Yangtze River economic belt. This paper selects 5 time nodes to analyze the evolution characteristics and its dynamic mechanism of the spatial pattern of the Yangtze River economic belt since 1995. The research contents and conclusions mainly include the following aspects:(1) The comprehensive evaluation of the regional economic development level in the Yangtze River economic belt. In the city region as the research unit, constructs the evaluation index system from three dimensions of economic scale, economic structure and economic benefit, to evaluate the regional economic development level of the Yangtze River economic belt. It was found that only a few areas of the comprehensive evaluation value reached more than 0.5, most of the evaluation values are below 0.5, shows that the overall economic development level of the Yangtze River economic belt is low, it performance for the coexistence of a small number of developed areas and a large number of underdeveloped areas.(2) The overall difference of regional economy in Yangtze River economic belt. According to the extreme value, average value and median value to analyze the change of the overall development level of the Yangtze River economic belt, use the range, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, Gini coefficient and Theil index to evaluate the absolute difference and relative difference of regional economy in Yangtze River economic belt. The results show that the overall level of economic development of the Yangtze River economic belt has been continuously improving, there is a big difference between the areas but it has a tendency to decrease. The relative difference of regional economy is comparably small, and showed decreased variation after increased then decreased slightly in steady.(3) The evolution of regional economic spatial pattern of the Yangtze River economic belt. Firstly, analyze the level evolution of the regional economic development in the Yangtze River economic belt, and then cany out the global and local spatial autocorrelation analysis. Yangtze River economic belt has a largest number of underdeveloped areas, while the developed areas, secondary developed areas and the lagging areas are less. The developed areas and secondary developed areas are mainly distributed in the central and eastern provinces, while the underdeveloped areas and lagging areas are mainly distributed in the central and western provinces. In addition, there is a significant positive correlation of economy between the regions of the Yangtze River economic belt, the HH cluster areas are mainly distributed in the Yangtze River delta region, while the LL cluster areas mainly distributed in the Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan Provinces. The number of LH and HL cluster areas is small, the former distributed in the periphery of the Yangtze River delta, the latter is mainly in the western minority center city.(4) Analysis on the influence factors of regional economic differences in the Yangtze River economic belt. On the basis of qualitative analysis about the factors affecting economic differences, this paper selects the spatial error model to do the global regression analysis of the main factors, and finally, the geographical weighted regression model is used to analyze the spatial-temporal non-stationary of each factor. The global regression analysis shows that the investment scale, the development foundation and the infonnationization level have a strong positive influence to the regional economic development, the location and traffic conditions, market level and population density have slight positive effect to it, the influence of the regional innovation ability and the degree of openness turn from negative to positive, while the effect of the quantity of labor transferred from positive to negative. The local regression analysis shows that the effect of various factors on the economy performs spatial-temporal non-stationary, therefore, it is needed to take differentiated, targeted policies and measures in the construction of the Yangtze River economic belt.
