Research On Selection Of Peasant Household Concurrent Occupation In Shuangtaizi Village Of Liaoning Province

Peasant household took the way of concurrent occupation. It not only can spread the risk of single agricultural operations, and also can take advantage of surplus labor, increase farmers’ income in exchange for more production and subsistence, while narrowing the gap between urban and rural areas. Concurrent occupation has become a major feature of today’s occupation of farmers, it will be a long-term existence phenomenon before the universal realization of urbanization. However, because of the complexity of peasant household concurrent occupation, there is blindness when farmers choose the direction of non-farm employment, the labor force has not fully demonstrated its advantages, it caused some low efficiency in concurrent occupation, thus inhibiting further increase of farmers’income. It is necessary to study the selection of peasant household concurrent occupation, to find difficulties during the process and proposals for a settlement, in order to achieve a sustainable source of income and ensure human resources are fully utilized.Shuangtaizi village is a typical agricultural village in major grain producing areas of northern Liaoning Province. It mainly grows corn, and the surrounding developed non-agricultural industries, so its peasant household concurrent occupation is widespread. Through the in-depth investigation for an agricultural village, it facilitates the research with farmers own point of view, try to avoid the effects of different environments, and it in favor of factors affecting, mode selection and other refining research.This paper introduces the background, purpose, meaning, and the research status of domestic and international academic circles in selection of peasant household concurrent occupation. It introduced the basic situation, related road selection and policy environment of the peasant household concurrent occupation in Japan, the United States, China’s Suzhou and Taiwan regions, and has laid a theoretical foundation for this study. After that, the paper based on the fieldwork of Shuangtaizi village, it analyzed the situation of community and peasant household concurrent occupation in sample area, and summarizes its basic characteristics. Then the article pooled analysis the reason of different types of farmers choose to engage in agriculture or non-agriculture occupation, as well as reasons for the second type of farmers not to give up agricultural occupation, and pointed out the problems in the process of peasant household concurrent occupation in sample villages. By building Logistic regression model to analyze the impact of characteristics of family factors on the farmers type selection deepen. From the perspective of farmers division within the family and labor transfer, it analyzed modes of peasant household concurrent occupation selection, and the nature and meaning, manifestation, for the crowd and the advantages and disadvantages various modes brought were analyzed in detail. Finally, the paper discussed the applicability of conclusions for the sample study and made universal suggestions for improvements of peasant household concurrent occupation selection.The research on selection of peasant household concurrent occupation in Shuangtaizi village of Liaoning Province is not only beneficial to farmers in sample village for efficient, stable and sustainable, but also have some guidance and reference to areas in major grain producing areas of northern Liaoning Province and some other areas have the similar agricultural business, non-farm environment, and industry conditions with sample village.
