The scheduling management is always an important part of project management, which is used to complete project in certain time and cost. Success of project is closely related to planning and control of scheduling. Many space-constrained projects have limited work space and inconvenient security monitoring which could easily lead to accident. Once accidents occur, the original schedule cannot be implemented on schedule, which will inevitably result in consequences on the overall project schedule including economic losses and negative social impacts. In the most researches of project management, scheduling and safety risk are conducted independently and there is little concern in their relationship, while the impact of the space on project safety and scheduling is rarely considered. Based on previous research, this paper reconsiders the impact of security risks on the project scheduling in space-constrained scenario. Firstly, the paper analyzes the characteristics of safety risk in limited space and related risk factors have been identified on the basis of the establishment of a safety risk assessment system on space-constrained projects. Based on ARAMIS, a safety risk assessment model is established to describe the impact of the duration delay and quantify the safety risk of all the processes in project. Secondly, the paper regards constrained space as a kind of resource constraint and redefines several types of resource constraint, and then a new resource-based duration adjustment method is put out. Next, based on RCPSP and CCM, a scheduling model considering the problem of space-constrained and safety risk is established. And then a partial adjustment model is also put out to resolve the resource adjustment. Through the identification of critical chain and improvement of buffer setting, we hope to shorten the duration of the project at the same level of risk. Finally, a numerical example is designed to test its effectiveness through simulation methods. This paper is an attempt to integrate safety and scheduling, especially in space-constrained situation, which is seen as a special resource constraint. We hope it can raise researchers’ concerns about space-constrained projects and project safety issues and provide a broader vision for the project management.
