The uncertainty of external environment and the complexity of the internal management of supply network increase due to the great changes in the global political, economic, and social environment,which has important influence on the stability of the supply network. The performance due to complexity such as the disruption of supply network managerial failure, disintegration and so on, threatens the sustainable development of manufacturing industry. Therefore, in recent years the research on complexity of supply network has become one of the major problems. Now the definition of complexity in existing research is not uniform, the study on the complexity mechanism, index and method to measure the complexity is few, the mining of influence factors on complexity and exploration of related laws of complexity need to be studied further. Therefore, the study on the complexity of supply network has significant theoretical and practical value. The primary content and conclusions of this research work are as follows:First, the complexity mechanism and characteristics of supply network has been studied, the influence factors of the supply network operation complexity has been concluded. Complexity analytic framework has been constructed. It is concluded that the supply network complexity can be characterized by endogenous complexity and exogenous complexity. The scale and structure of Supply network, as well as the relationship between node enterprises, have close correlation with the complexity of network. As the basic elements of the network, the network structure and the relationship between node enterprises directly affect the realization of the network function, governance means on network structure and the relationship between node enterprises also impact on function complete certainty, so the uncertainty of function realization degree is also one of the performance of network complexity.Secondly, the measure index of internal complexity and methods is studied, taking property and characteristic of network enterprise internal relations into consideration, especially from the aspects of "structure- function- relationship" to discuss the method of enterprise organization complexity. It is concluded that the complexity and the scale of supply network have strong correlation, the complexity and the number of levels have weak correlation, the complexity and the average density of nodes have no obvious correlation. The complexity is relative value, so we can diagnose the complexity of available and unavailable by the same organization complexity comparison and the correlation analysis of complexity and organization performance.Finally, considering the importance of the motif structure in network, the main cooperation pattern in supply networks is studied. We build complexity measure model based on the supply network node difference and the relationship diversity to measure supply network structure complexity, it is concluded that the motif is an important structure in the network, and is the basic unit of cooperation way in network organization. Secondly, the complexity of supply network has significant effects on operating performance, and the degree of complexity is too high or too low, which will lead to the decline of the performance.The conclusion of the study has important enlightents for supply network to optimize the structure and relationship, and to provide theoretical support and practical path in moderate increase in the heterogeneity network structure and relationships, selection and management of suppliers and so on, which counts for enhancing the performance and industrial competency of manufacturing supply network.
