At present, Gansu province is in the period of industrial restructuring as well as there is an urgent need to reform and innovation. Based on this as the starting point, this paper makes a systematic study on the role of strategic emerging industries in promoting economic growth. Based on the experts and scholars, studies, make clear the way that the strategic emerging industry drives economic growth. Then analysis the necessity and feasibility development of strategic and emerging industries in Gansu Province based on the real. Finally, use the empirical way analysis the specific relationship between the strategic emerging industries and the growth of economy.In the empirical part, firstly the article based on the classification of national economic industries classify the three group backbone enterprises of Gansu province finding a specific industrial classification corresponding to the strategic and emerging industries. Combining with the actual situation in Gansu Province, select 22 segments of the industry category of the new energy industry information technology industry bio-industry advanced equipment manufacturing industry new materials industry and energy saving and environmental protection industry in order to study the contribution of strategic emerging industries to economic growth by using the grey correlation analysis method.The studies have shown that the development of strategic emerging industries has a large effect and contribution on promoting economic growth in Gansu Province, meanwhile driving other industries in an obvious way. So in the future the development of strategic emerging industries is necessary in order to increase economic growth and narrow the gap with the developed areas; The order of this article selects the six strategic emerging industries contribute to economic growth is as follows: energy saving and environmental protection industry> the new energy industry> advanced equipment manufacturing industry> new materials industry> bio-industry> information technology industry. Therefore, in order to promote the economic development of Gansu Province, promoting the development of strategic industries, it should be more inclined to develop energy-saving and environmental protection industry, new energy industry and advanced equipment manufacturing industry. Finally, the paper is conducted a systematic summary, and considered that we can take some measures to promote the development of strategic emerging industries, for example, improving the guiding mechanism of the policy strengthening financial supervision and financial system construction, establishing a scientific and perfect system of technological innovation, improving personnel training and so on, thus promoting the economy of Gansu province to achieve "quality and quantity" growth.
