The genera Patania Moore,1888 and Syllepte Hubner,1823 belong to Spilomelinae of Pyraloidea.The dissertation deals with the taxonomic study of the genera Patania and Syllepte from China.The genera Patania and Syllepte are briefly reviewed.The morphology and biology are introduced.1.Taxonomy36 species of Patania and 29 species of Syllepte from China are record.31 species of Patania and 18 species of Syllepte are described in detail based on the specimens.Two species are described as new:Patania huagaoxiensis sp.nov.,Patania singulispina sp.nov.Three combinations are proposed:Patania bipunctalis(Warren,1888)comb.nov.,Patania megillalis(Walker,1859)comb.nov.,Patania xuthusalis(Walker,1859)comb.nov.Seven species are newly recorded to China:Patania bipunctalis(Warren,1888)comb.nov.,Patania holophaealis(Hampson,1912),Patania megillalis(Walker,1859)comb.nov.,Patania nigriflava(Swinhoe,1894),Patania verecunda(Warren,1896),Patania xuthusalis(Walker,1859)comb.nov.,Syllepte iophanes Meyrick,1894.One synonym of Patania is established:Nagiella Munroe,1976 syn.nov.Keys to species of the both genera are provided.Synonyms and citations of each taxon are listed;the detailed morphological characters of 49 species,the available data on the geographical distribution of every species and the host plants of some species are included;Pictures of adult morphological characters of 39 species,and illustrations of 39 male and 38 female genitalia are provided.The types of new species are deposited in the Insect Collection,College of Plant Protection,Southwest University,Chongqing,China.2.FaunaGeographical distributions of species of Patania are analyzed.The reseults show that species which distribute in Oriental Realm make up 83.64%of fifty-five species in the world,then those in Palearctic Realm accounting for 41.82%,and the proportion of those respectively distribute in Oriental Realm,Palearctic Realm,Australian Realm,Ethiopian Realm,Neotropical Realm and Nearctic Realm decrease successively.And the proportion of those distribute in Neotropical Realm and Nearctic Realm are less than 6%respectively.It shows fourteen distributional patterns in the zoogeographical regions of the world.36.36%of them are endemic to Oriental region,27.27%of them distribute in Palaearctic and Oriental regions,and a few species contribute to the other distributional patterns.The species of Patania mainly consist of Oriental composition.It is speculated that Oriental regions is the the species differentiated center of Patania.Thirty-six species of Patania distribute in China.88.89%of them mainly distribute in South-China,66.67%in Central-China,47.22%in Southwest-China,38.89%in North-China,the proportion in Northeast-China,Mongol-Xinjiang and Qinghai-Tibetand are less than 10%respectively.And it shows thirteen distribution patterns in zoogeographical region of China.27.78%of them mainly are endemic to South-China Regions,19.44%distribute in North-China,Southwest-China,Central-China and South-China Regions,16.67%in Southwest-China,Central-China and South-China Regions,the other distributional patterns are less than 6%respectively.The species of Patania from China mainly consist of South-China composition.It is speculated that South-China regions is the species dispersal center of Patania from China.The two bivariate similarity coefficient of the seven zoogeographical regions in China are worked out by the specialized formulations.The analysis result indicates that the similarity index(SI)of Central-China and South-China reach up to 0.600,which are significant similarity.Then SI of North-China and Central-China,Southwest-China and Central-China are 0.583,0.577 respectively,which also reach to significant similarity.The two bivariate analysis coefficient of North-China,Southwest-China,and South-China regions up to 0.400 around.SI of Northeast-China and Qinghai-Tibetand is 0.333.And SI of the rest regions is less than 0.300.
