Scholars at home and abroad have carried out the study of the mechanism, process and equipment of laser truing and dressing super abrasive grinding wheel. However, it is still a technical problem that how to realize high efficiency and high precision of truing and dressing grinding wheel. Therefore, this paper conducts the design of measurement and control system of laser radial dressin g super abrasive grinding wheel, and builds a set of laser dressing equipment with perfect function and high level of integration, which is to solve the problem of low measurement precision and realize the automatic control of the dressing process.Firstly, based on the process of the “detection-judgement-laser on”, design the overall framework of the system and selection of equipment is carried out, then the equipment control interface and communication mode are determined. And finally the overall system design is completed. The work process of laser radial dressing system is analyzed according to the dressing system designed.Secondly, the software program interface of fiber laser is designed based on the working principle of PCIe-6361 data acquisition card and fiber laser. The program interface is designed respectively based on the serial communication protocol and commands of laser displacement sensor and two dimension displacement platforms and the virtual instrument technology of Lab VIEW, realizing parameter setting and control of the equipment. The program interface designed has established foundation for the design of grinding wheel profile and topography measurement system, grinding wheel truing and dressing system and main control system in this paper.Thirdly, the grinding wheel profile and topography measurement system has been built. The surface of grinding wheels is continuously scanned by the detection light spot through the spiral path, then the grinding wheel surface measurement data is read and stored, and then converted into relative height values of the grinding wheel profile. Finally the data preprocessing is conducted in accordance with the treatment of singular point and noise point processing method. According to the assessment of the geometrical precision and surface topography two aspects, a method to determine the reference value of grinding wheel dressing is put forward. The grinding wheel topography measurement system program interface is designed based on the Lab VIEW software.Finally, the software control system of laser radial dressing grinding wheel and the main control system are designed. The response time of the control system is 50?s, and the overall response time is 280?s. In the basis of the grinding wheel truing and dressing system designed, experiments on laser truing and dressing of bronze bonded diamond grinding wheel is carried out, and then the dressing effect of the grinding wheel is analyzed. Results show that, the system can realize the selective removal of the protruding grains on grinding wheel surface under appropriate experiment parameters, achieving the effect of rough dressing with the eccentricity of grinding wheel removing.
