Roller is a tool that makes metal generating plastic deformation. In the course of work, there are surface defects generated in the roller such as exfoliation. In recent years, laser remanufacturing technology gets a big promotion in roller defect repairing. When the roller is repaired by laser remanufacturing, the manual measurement of roller defects is often needed. It severely impacts the automation of laser remanufacturing process. If advanced modern measurement methods can be used to measure the size of roller defects, the 3D appearance characteristics of roller defects will be reconstructed. It will provide convenient conditions to realize the automation of machining path planning.On the basis of existing three-dimensional topography measurement methods, this paper has designed a system of roller defects measurement and reconstruction. This paper studies the following aspects:Research situation of three-dimensional topography measurement technology is summarized, and the significance of this study is described;Basic principle of roller defects measurement and fundamental theory of defect model reconstruction are stated. A method for measuring remanufactured roller defects based on scanning and ranging is presented;The overall scheme of roller defects measurement system is designed. The hardware platform of measuring system is built. The major hardware are analyzed such as distance measuring sensor and data acquisition Board;Based on Lab VIEW, graphical programming tools, the software of roller defects measurement system is designed. The system can realize 3D sweep measurement of roller defects and reverse reconstruction of solid model;Experiment has been conducted to check the system of roller defects measurement and reconstruction. By using calibrated distance measuring sensor, an experimental workpiece with defects is measured. The 3D shape of the scanned area is rebuilt. The 3D boundaries of the defects are also extracted. Error analysis of the experimental result is done. The factors that affect measurement accuracy are discussed;By using the 3D point cloud data of fitting defects surface, the solid model of defected workpiece is reconstructed in PRO/E. Boolean operation is taken between defected workpiece model and intact workpiece model. The 3D solid model of defected zone is extracted and it is just the geometric model that laser remanufacturing needs to repair.The system of roller defects measurement and reconstruction developed in this paper can basically realize its function. By the use of PRO/NC, processing code can be generated from the remanufacturing solid model, which will lead laser remanufacturing to repair the defects.
