Gear is one of the most important transmission parts in the mechanical field, and the gear manufacturing quality affects the transmission stability, bearing strength and service life. Gear testing technology is an important factor to improve the manufacturing quality. In traditional measuring methods, one of the whole profile traces is regard as the whole tooth surface profile deviations, one point of each gear tooth surfaces replaces the entire tooth surface to evaluate the distribution of tooth. The traditional gear measuring methods only reflect part error of the tooth surface, can’t identify the error characteristics of the gear completely and can’t analyze the sources of error accurately. In order to overall reflect the gear manufacturing accuracy, it is necessary to measure and evaluate the three-dimensional precision of tooth surfaces, and provide reliable data to adjust the gear cutting process parameters.This paper belongs to the field of gear measurement, aims to measure and evaluate gear three-dimensional tooth surface deviation, and following work is developed:(1) In order to reflect the characteristics of the whole tooth surface deviation, a reasonable measurement method and probe sampling path is determined according to the gear tooth surface geometry model.(2) The sample data is preprocessed, and the points beyond the normal range are removed. In order to fit out gear three-dimensional tooth surface deviation fast and efficiently, the data is simplified, and new double orderly mesh points are obtained.(3) The new double orderly mesh points are used to fit morphology of the gear’s three-dimensional tooth surface deviation. The tooth surface deviation is separated into first-order deviation,second-order deviation and second-order residual deviation, and gear machining error sources are analyzed.(4) Through the study of each gear tooth angle deviation, the method using angle deviation separated from gear tooth profile deviation to evaluate the tooth pitch deviation is proposed.By fitting and separation experiments can be drawn, the method of gear surface deviations fitting and separation is effective. The angle deviation is verified feasibility through the tooth profile curve separation experiments. The measurement of gear’s three-dimensional tooth surface deviation can provide accurate data for the evaluation and gear processing.
