As a new form of rural tourism, farmhouse tourism has become more and more popular owing to its beautiful natural scenery, local culture, unique farm life experience and the popular consumption level. It has showed peculiar enchantment in economic, social and cultural aspects. However, with the rapid development of farmhouse tourism and the fast increase of the number of visitors, the demand for clean water and the generation and emission of waste-water are also increased, resulting in serious pollution to the local and surrounding water environment. Effective environmental protection measures are urgently needed to realize the balanced and sustainable development of farmhouse tourism economy and the natural environment. In this thesis, a case study was conducted in Shiling Village Baofu Town Anji County, a typical mountainous village, where the main economic source for the residents is from farmhouse tourism. Investigation and some experiment were carried out and the following results were obtained:1) The fact that Shiling Village is mainly constituted by sharp mountains and giant stones with very limited arable land, greatly restricted the development of industry and traditional agriculture. The establishment and development of farmhouse tourism was obviously the turning point from the poverty to rich life and the most effective way for the local economic development.2) The farmhouse tourism in Shiling Village had experienced three stages, that is initial developing, upgrading and comprehensive promoting. Its rapid development had made great contributions to the local economics. According to the statistics in 2014, the annual tourists of Shiling Village had amounted to 15,000 trips. The business income of farmhouse tourism had reached 3,500,000 yuan, accounting for more than 80% of the total income. Proportionally according to the farmhouse business types, the average annual income of each bed was about 15,900 yuan.3) The water environment impact from farmhouse tourism in Shiling Village was also assignable. Preliminarily analyzed according to the relevant statistics in 2014, during the two month's tourist season in July and August, the emission of COD amounted to 5136 kg, while the ammonia emission upped to 400 kg. The monitoring carried out in October 2014 showed that the river water quality hadn't met the standard level, indicating that the pollutants discharged from farmhouse tourism to the river exceeded the capacity of the river.4) Evaluation on the waste-water reatment technologies based on the pollutant removal efficiency of the systems indicated that the newly developed integarted facility owned the higher efficiency, and this facility could be suggested to be widely used.5) Based on the analysis of the present situation of the local water quality and the contribution of farmhouse tourism to the local economy and water pollutant emission, countermeasures for environment protection was proposed to provide guidance and technical support for the local economic development and environment protection. Hopefully, these results might also provide a demonstration for other similar situations.
