This paper reports alginate fibers and raw material is main sodium alginate. Composite fibers were prepared respectively by composite system of sodium alginate/polyethylene glycol/molecular sieve, blended solution of sodium alginate/polyvinyl alcohol and sodium alginate graft copolymerization malefic acid polyethylene glycol monoester (MAPEG). The theology behavior and compatibility of spinning solution were characterized by Brookfield viscometer (Model RVDV-C) and DSC. The composite fibers were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), Infrared spectrum (FTIR), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Tensile Strength Tester.This report shows blend solution of sodium alginate/polyethylene glycol/molecular sieve is a typical kind of non-Newtonian fluid. The apparent viscosity declined with the increase of shear rate. Rheological properties were affected by temperature and contents of the blends, at the same time, non-Newtonian index and structure viscosity index also changed. Research results were very important to the choice of wet spinning process. The thermal property and energy storage effect of alginate fibers was good, so was the fracture strength.Composite solution of sodium alginate/polyvinyl alcohol has good compatibility, and it is also a typical kind of pseudoplastic fluid. The fluidity of composite solution is better than pure solution of sodium alginate. The best process conditions was analyzed by orthogonal experimental design:coagulation bath concentration 3%, coagulation bath temperature 30?, content of boric acid 2%, copper sulfate concentration 15%, copper sulfate temperature 35?. The composite fiber surface is smooth and no hole, but there are grooves on the fiber surface. The composite fibers have good hydroscopic ability and adsorption capacity to heavy metals. In addition, the thermal property of composite fibers is steady.FTIR shows malefic acid polyethylene glycol monoester (MAPEG) has grafted sodium alginate. As the percent of reactants is different, it appears different degree of crystallization. The energy storage effect of material was good; its max enthalpy value is 135.26J/g.We use the property of sodium alginate to prepare the alginate fibers, the fibers have special function. Using physical or chemical methods and studying on the process condition, we prepare the fibers to possess excellent performance. Composite fibers have a wider prospect.
