Thionyl chloride is an important inorganic chemical product in chemical industry.Thionyl chloride is usually colorless or light yellow transparent, and has been widely used in medicine, pesticide, dyestuff industry and organic synthesis ndustries. The related downstream products are up to more than 70 species, like chlorination agent, chlorinating agent, catalyst, with also are used as a desiccant, dehydration, electrolyte and solvent. With the rapid development of medical and polymer industry, its application fields have gradually enlarged and expanded, meanwhile the demand of thionyl chloride purity becomes higher, therefore, obtaining high-quality thionyl chloride becomes a urgent problem in the field. At present,, the quality of the products despite improved significantly after many years of exploration and improvement process, but compared with foreign products, there is still a large gap at the appearance of the product and purity. The key problem esists in purification distillation process,.In order to solve the aboved problem, this study focous on the continuous distiliiation process based on the original design of batch distillation. The production capability of the device is greatly improved, at the same time the color and purity are improved, but the sulfuryl chloride concentration of the product is still not meet the demand. Further combine the chemical conversion and physical distillation separation process, the two towers process is created based on the three tower rectification, and the purity of the product is obviously improved, with the purity of product lager than 99%, theconcentration of sulfuryl chloride becomeslower than 0.2%.the purification has completely reached the advanced leve in the worldl. The overall utilization of heat energy,is greatly saved by using the the differential pressure coupling technique, which is supported by the computer simulation. And also the the heat released from thionyl chloride catalytic reaction was successfully utilized to distillation systemand the energy consumption of distillation is reduced, with good economic and social benefits.
