In recent years, the water-soluble coating is a new class of saving resources, low manufacturing cost, the characteristics of green environmental protection, and so developed rapidly. The application and development of water-borne coatings decrease the pollution of organic solvent to the environment and the harm to human body. Acrylic resin is very widely used in synthetic resin. It has excellent durability, luster, light color, hardness and flexibility, and occupies an important position in the field of coating. but in the practical application of water soluble coatings also has some defects, such as low solid content, viscosity, film resistance to water shortage, etc., which makes its widely application is restricted. This paper aimed at the problems of water-based acrylic resin coating did some modification, specific work is as follows:(1) The water-borne hydroxyl acrylic resin was prepared and applied to two component acrylic-polyurethane coating, by free radical solution polymerization method and semi-continuous adding using methyl meth-acrylate, styrene, butyl acrylate, acrylic acid, ethyl acrylate and glycidyl Versatate as raw materials. The effects of species and amount of initiator, ratio of hard/soft monomers, amount of acrylic acid, amount of E-10p, dropping method, reaction temperature, degree of neutralization on the properties of resin were investigated. The structure of the resin was characterized by Fourier infrared spectromete. Thermal stability of the resin was investigated by thermogravimetric analyzer. The change of two-component coating viscosity and film hardness over time were studied. The results showed that when the dosage of initiator was 2%, ratio hard/soft monomers 45/20, acrylic acid dosage was 6%, E-10p was 10%, temperature was 85?, degree of neutralization was 100%, water-borne acrylic resin was obtained with solid content about 45%, viscosity 3.8 Pa.s, film have good water and acid and alkali resistance, good adhesion, good flexibility. In addition, the two-component coating viscosity increases but the film hardness decreases with increasing holding time, completed used within 3 h.(2) The water-borne acrylic resin modified by silicone was prepared by solution polymerization using acrylic monomer, hydroxyethyl-acrylate and glycidyl Versatateand vinyl triethoxy silane(AC-75) as raw material. The effects of the dosage of initiator, organic silicon amount and dropping method, neutralization degree on the properties of the resin were investigated. The resin particle size, particle morphology were characterized and analyzed by TEM and DLS. Results showed that when the dosage of initiator was 2.5%, organic silicon dosage was 6%, neutralization degree was 100%, silicone modified water-borne acrylic resin was obtained with solid content 32%, viscosity 4.5 Pa.s, adhesion 1 degree, flexibility 2 mm, good water resistance and heat resistant.(3) The water-borne acrylic resin modified organic silicon and epoxy resin was synthesized by graft copolymerization of epoxy resin with acrylic monomers and organic silicon. FT-IR was used to identify the structure of the grafted acrylic resin, and atomic force microscope were also employed to carefully characterize the emulsions and films; also examines the dosage of initiator, epoxy resin dosage and adding method, dosage of organic silicon and other factors on the properties of emulsion and film. The results showed that when the dosage of initiator was 3%, epoxy resin(E-44)was 4%, organic silicon was 3%, synthetic resin emulsion was white with blue light, good storage stability, and the coating adhesion 0 degree, hardness 2H, water resistance and heat resistance performance was good.
