Thermal error of CNC machine tools is critical for their precision level and precision maintenance. Generally, CNC machine tools have time-varying and hysteresis thermal characteristics, which are obviously influenced by its working and environmental condition. It was difficult to accurately obtain thermal deformation regualtions only by simulation methods. Thus the experiments have became the main method to investigate thermal characteristics of CNC machine tools.Thermal characteristics testing of CNC machine tools have excessive testing objectives, complicated measuring methods, long experimental cycles and multitudes of experimental data. So far, there are no standard templates for testing design and processing system for experimental data, which may result in inconsistent experiment design, difficulties to rapidly realize recurring and comparing for existed experimental data. In this dissertation, the hardware and software platforms for the thermal characterisitic testing of CNC machine tools will be established, the testing methods and procedures will be standardized, and the processing software system for the original testing data will be developed. So that the testing design standardization and its results readability for thermal characteristics of the CNC machine tools can be realized. The main contents of this dissertation are as follows:On the basis of the previous experimental studies, the testing hardware and software platforms are systematically developed. This system proposes thermal characteristic testing methods including temperature testing module, the spindle thermal deformation testing module, stress/strain testing module and linear feed axis precision testing module.Accroding to the working condition and channel instructions for the preparing phase of testing, the standardized templates for the testing design are formulated, and testing procedures and methods are standardized. The thermal testing managing database for CNC machine tools is developed, so that previous testing design and the original testing data can be easily connected and indexed.To deal with the large number of testing data resulted from temperature testing, spindle thermal deformation testing, stress/strain testing and linear feed axis precision testing, rapid testing data processing software system is developed, which can be adapted to different types and data structures. Based on this system, high frequency filter, rapid displaying with graphics mode and comparing analysis for testing data can be realized.Based on above-mentioned testing hardware and software platforms, thermal testing managing database and rapid testing data processing software system, thermal characteristic experiments of a precision horizontal machine tool are carried out. It is illustrated that the research results are valuable to realize the testing design standardization, index and displaying with graphics mode of testing data.
